50,000 Hours with A1: participants of the charity event reached the main goal ahead of schedule
Participants of the 100 Hours with A1 charity event reached the main goal of the project ahead of schedule. The goal was to do sports for approximately 50,000 hours within 50 days. As of July 15, the total counter reached the mark of 50,803 hours and 45 minutes. Which means that the A1 company is going to donate 50,000 rubles to the SOS-Children's Villages International nonprofit organisation, which is also an event partner. But the event itself will keep going until July 20, as planned, so the race for the first place in each of the sports (running, swimming, speed walking and cycling) is still ongoing.
The charity event is designed to last for exactly 50 days, and over 2,000 people have joined it since June 1. Just as it was last year, speed walking and cycling remain the most popular sports: the most active participants who were on the move for more than 100 hours registered to compete in these particular disciplines. As a symbolic reward to celebrate their achievements, a personalized tree for each of the winners will be planted on the territory of the Barauliany SOS-Children's Village in accordance with the landscape improvement project.
This year all of the sports activities of the 100 Hours with A1 charity event were directly related to the topic of environmental awareness. Once the project is complete, it is planned to use allocated funds to install solar panels and an water-air heat pump in the Mogilev SOS-Children's Village, which will provide its residents with environmentally friendly electricity throughout the year. A system like this within the framework of such an ambitious project will be implemented in Belarus for the first time ever. Its test launch is scheduled for the beginning of the new school year.
A strong contribution to the promotion of the event and the overall result was made not only by individual participants, but also by sports associations. Among them are the A1 Junior football club, Olympiets, Finval and SWIMMINSK swimming clubs from Minsk, as well as their partners: AquaStars Brest swimming club, Zheltaya submarina from Gomel and Beliy Medvyed sports club from Polotsk. Members of the Run4Fun running club, with branches in Minsk, Baranovichi, Grodno, Rahachow, Ashmyany and Pinsk, also added their overtime training hours.
Visitors of the Iezha Street city picnic, which took place on July 10 and 11 in the capital's Botanical Garden, also joined the charity event. 229 People walked the three specially designed routes, tried GPS-art and added their walking time to the 100 Hours with A1 collection.
Participants can upload the results of their individual training sessions to the 100.a1.by online platform until the event conclusion on July 20. Based on the project results, the winners will be determined both in the overall ranking and separately in each sports. The participants who accumulate the most training hours in each of the four sports will receive collections of medals, and the ultimate winner will receive a glass and wood goblet custom-made for the charity event.
