A1 offers free of charge calls to domestic violence hotline
A1 has supported UNO Fund initiative related to population activities (UNFPA) via free access for it’s customers to the national hotline for victims of domestic violence. The said hotline is operated by the international social association Gender Perspectives.
From now on if necessary, anyone who has faced physical, psychological, sexual or economic violence at home is able to reach the national hotline for victims of domestic violence free of charge by dialing 8-801-100-8-801 not only from a landline, but also from any A1 number. Thus, anyone who has happened to get into hot water has more opportunities to get timely aid, i.e. social, psychological and legal.
«A call to a hotline for anyone who has confronted violence is the first step to get support, aid and solution to the problem. The victims often suffer a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness also literally in such circumstances. That is why it is so important to be aware of what to start with, where to seek help and whom to address in search of support and professional advice. About 34% of the customers are elderly people who face violence from their grown up sons and daughters. And today the number of such cases is growing along with mental issues since numerous families experience anxiety and economic stress being locked down at home in a confined space», - commented Olga Atroschenko, chief of UNFPA in Belarus.
The national hotline for victims of domestic violence was launched on 13 August 2012 based on international social association Gender Perspectives. The hotline 8-801-100-8-801 operates on a daily basis between 8 am and 8 pm. On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is a lawyer on duty and a psychologist on the rest of the days.
